Mini symposium Lyon : Glycomics and beyond….

Cermav will participate in the mini-symposium organized by Dr Petier Goekjan, on Friday December 8th, 2023 at the Batiment Lederer (ICBMS building, 1 rue Victor Grignard) on the Doua Campus, as part of the the ICL-funded visit of Prof. .Nicolas Pohl.

Glycomics: Beyond the human glycome

Program :

  • 13:45-14:25 : Dr. Serge Pérez. Director of Research Emeritus at the Centre de Recherches sur les Macromolécules Végétales, (CERMAV) CNRS – Universite Grenoble-Alpes

Glycomics in Glycoscience will address some of the pending issues covered by the Rhône-Alpine glycoscience community and introduce the themes covered by the invited contributors to the particular symposium.

  • 14:35-15:15: Pr. Isabelle Compagnon, Professor at the Instiut Lumiere Matiere (ILM), Universite Lyon -1

An MS-IR Toolbox for Glycomics: The coupling of ion trapping with vibrational spectroscopy uncovers the 3 microns IR range, which is not exploitable in traditional spectroscopy, and turns out to be particularly relevant for deciphering sugars structure. Three types of MS-IR measurements will be illustrated on the rare galactofuranose for identificarion, sequencing and screening.

  • 15:25-15:45 coffee break

15:45-16:25 : Pr. Nicola Pohl, Joan and Marvin Carmack Chair of Bioorganic Chemistry, Department of Chemistry,  Indiana University Bloomington, IN, USA

Strategies for the Synthesis and Analysis of Microbial and Plant Glycans: Microbial and plant glycans are made of thousands of different monosaccharide constituents. This talk will discuss approaches to identify these diverse constituents and synthesis of  such glycans on demand.

  • 16:35-17:15: Dr. Anne Imberty, Director of Research at the Centre de Recherches sur les Macromolécules Végétales, (CERMAV), CNRS – Universite Grenoble-Alpes

Lectins and Lectomes for Deciphering the Glycocode. The complexity of glycome is mirrored by the variety of protein receptors such as lectins able to read it.  Lectins are targets for therapeutical strategies, and also tools for biotechnology.

  • 17:25 Closing remarks and discussion
