João COSAS joins Cermav as a CNRS research scientist (“Chargé de recherche CNRS”)

João COSAS is laureate of the external entrance examinations to the CNRS and, since October 1st, 2023, he has joined CERMAV as a permanent CNRS research fellow.
A look back at his career and his research project at Cermav.

After engineering studies in Brazil, João COSAS completed a doctorate in physico-chemistry of polymers at the Université Grenoble Alpes, where he developed a confocal AFM-Raman co-localized analysis system for the study of systems multiphase polymers. He was a teaching assistant at Polytech-Grenoble as part of the UGA doctoral training program. After his thesis, he worked as a junior researcher at the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) in Luxembourg, in a program in partnership with the tire industry from 2018 to 2021. Returning to France in January 2022, he joined the Structure and Properties of Glycomaterials (SPG) team at CERMAV as a postdoctoral fellow, working on adhesion phenomena between nanocellulose surfaces and on interfaces in polymer nanocomposites containing modified polysaccharides.

His career has led him to study different types of materials, including polymer electrolytes for energy, elastomeric blends, (nano)composite materials, and cellulose nanocrystals/nanofibers.

Since October 1st, 2023, João COSAS has joined CERMAV permanently as a CNRS research fellow, through an external entrance examination. Its research activity, based on the expertise of the SPG team, will focus on the development of new materials based on modified polysaccharides for energy applications, in particular proton exchange membranes for hydrogen fuel cells.

Congratulations to him; we wish him a long and successful career!
